Volunteers are part of the life-blood of Crisis Assistance Ministry connecting the community to the agency’s goals of stabilizing housing while preserving dignity for our economically fragile neighbors.
Opportunities for volunteers age 10+ include individual and group tasks, and one-time or recurrent commitments, to support individuals and families experiencing a financial crisis.
Volunteer Roles:
- Donation Door Attendant: Greet donors who drop off new / gently used household or clothing items
- Free Store Assistant: Providing friendly customer service to families who shop at our Free Store.
- Sort Donations: Sort, inspect, and organize clothing, shoes, household items, and more.
- Lunch Ministry: Purchase and distribute food and beverage to up to 120 customers during lunch.
- Breakfast Ministry: Purchase, prep, distribute or drop off 100 pre-packaged individual breakfast bags.
- Snack Ministry: Purchase and prepare 100 pre-packaged individual bags of snacks. Drop off at CAM.
- Computer Guidance: Assist customers with computer-based tools for available services and benefits.

Purpose
For 50 years, this community has come together here to offer hope, help, and understanding to people experiencing financial crisis in Mecklenburg County. In 2025, 125 families seek help here every single day. Crisis Assistance Ministry is their safety net—is Charlotte's safety net—amid the most uncertain of times. We can't do it without you. You offer hope when all seems lost. Needs: Rent, utilities, clothing, and household essentials to stabilize housing Provision: Help, hope, and understanding to create long term financial stability Our Mission: To provide assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency. Our Vision: To inspire our community to justice and generosity as we provide help, hope, and understanding to people struggling with limited financial resources.

Young people ages 10 to 15 can volunteer with an adult. Teens age 16 and up may volunteer on their own.
